Concept engineering for the improvement of the wastewater treatment process in a machining plant aeronautical part (LA20)

ISSUE

The operational cost of wastewater treatment and water demineralization system of an aeronautical parts machining plant was a significant problem to the client. This includes the chemicals consumption, labor and costs of external disposal.

TECHNOLOGICAL CHALLENGE

The client needs optimization to the operation of the current equipment and installation of new equipment at the same location giving significant physical constraints.

RECOMMENDED SOLUTION

The solution consists of a list of recommendations aimed to reduce the operational cost of the water treatment plant as follow:

  • Optimize the consumption of chemicals to neutralize alkaline wastewater
  • Install a decanter between the Physico-chemical treatment system and the filter press to maximize the use of the filter
  • Modify the operation of the physicochemical system to treat the volumes of water presently disposed of externally
  • Optimize the operation of the activated carbon filter, the softener and the osmosis unit supplying deionized water for the plant
  • Install timers on the clogging tank heating system so that the system is in operation only during working hours and not 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
